The Hungarian International Press Association (HIPA) is the association of foreign correspondents in Hungary. Our members are foreign journalists working in Hungary, as well as Hungarian journalists who work for foreign newspapers and journalists who work for foreign language Hungarian newspapers.
HIPA is also open to associate members from the diplomatic community as well as from NGO's and to corporate members.
The organisation's working language is English.
One of our main activities is the organisation of regular meetings, mainly press breakfasts, with personalities from the Hungarian society and, occasionally, visiting VIP's. Our guests are typically politicians, analysts, scientists or any other person who for one reason or the other might be of interest for our members. Those meetings are open for all HIPA-members. Once in a while, we also organize one or two day long press trips, generally in cooperation with another organisation.
Almost all HIPA activities are free of charge for our members, the principal exception being the annual dinner.
In addition, HIPA runs a list server that provides our journalist members with regular information about press conferences and other events organized by third parties. The list server is also used by members to exchange information and to hold (sometimes very lively) discussions on various topics.
For journalist members HIPA also provides a membership/press card.
Furthermore, we help members to tackle red tape like residence permits and press accreditations.
HIPA was established in 1994. We have 50 journalist members, some 35 associate members (diplomats, NGO's) and four corporate members: Danubius Hotels, T-Home, JLL and KPMG. Apart from that, we are supported by two special associates: restaurant Shalimar and Hotel Le Meridien.
